Science in Progress: From Lab to Pilot

Innovation is a process that develops step by step. In its first year, the ONE EARTH project concentrated on research activities and early testing that will form the basis for future demonstrations.

The focus has been on preparing and exploring how residues of animal origin can be transformed into resources. While this work is still ongoing, the project is moving gradually from laboratory concepts toward pilot-scale activities, where processes can be tested under real-world conditions.

This transition from lab to pilot is a vital part of any innovation pathway. It ensures that the technologies being developed are not only scientifically sound but also practical, scalable, and relevant for industry and society.

By building a strong scientific foundation in its first year, ONE EARTH has positioned itself to deliver the pilots and demonstrations that will follow in the next stages. These will provide tangible examples of how residues can be turned into valuable products and how circular value chains can be created across Europe.

As the project advances, it will continue to bridge the gap between research and practice, helping to show how the circular bioeconomy can move from vision to reality.
